Atheism is not a truth claim.

Froma friend who said it more succinctly than I could: Atheism is neither true nor untrue, and nor does it claim to be. It comes back to the rigorous definition of atheism, which describes the absence of a single belief. I do hope that some of the credulous actually absorb this fact.

All too often, believers will project a meaning that a word doesn't have based on their poor understanding of the word or the world around them. Hopefully this simple statement will help. Of course, even simple is sometimes too complex for the theist mind to work out. a (without) theism (belief in gods). Try to keep up, even while riding the short bus.

Atheism could be decribed as the "belief" that God does not exist.

How many fields of science were ever founded by those who clinged to "methodological naturalism only"?

"could be" but that would be incorrect.

Flying could be described as falling and missing the ground, but that's really not it, is it? Equally ridiculous. Theists just seem to have a hard time understanding that someone else doesn't get suckered into their delusion. I just reject your hypothesis entirely and remain without any belief.

I'm sure all your time is taken up with an active non-belief in the millions of other gods mankind has invented, or every other type of mythological creature. No wonder you don';t have any brainpower able to dedicate to actually thinking, you're too busy disbelieving everything that has no basis in reality as it is.

Atheists have beliefs. No question about it.

I don't spend my time thinking about other "gods". I can critically examine the claims made by other religions, but whenever I do, their claims pale in comparison to Christianity in one way or another.

It would seem that you lump all religions in together rather than critically examining them. I would study them if for no other reason than a type of Pascal's wager and I find the subject interesting, but that's just me.

"I can critically examine the claims made by other religions,"

LOL!!!!! That's rich. And trust me, if you critically examined xtianity's claims, you'd find them just as weak. You just refuse to apply any degree of honesty to your beliefs.

And yes, atheists DO have TONS of beliefs (or rather trusts), but god(s) is not one of them.

And yet another LAUGHABLE comment: Pascal's wager? Really, do you even know how weak that argument is? It's been so thuroughly debunked that only the mentally infirm, deluded, or just plain STUPID would even bother bringing it into an argument of ANY sort.

Baloney, I'm going through a book now that critically examines the case for the Resurrection. When is the last time that you did and if so, who was the author?

I read Karen Armstrong's childish attempt at special pleading and logical fallacies last week. Who's your author? Ken Hamm?

I have also read a great number of apologist's trash that they attempt to rationalize their beliefs (most because I am amazed anyone actually buys into their trite bullshit).

However, currently I am reading a couple of books my daughter asked me to read, as well as "And Another Thing" the 6th Hitchhiker book in the trilogy.

Here's the link to the book I'm currently reading. There's a "Look Inside" feature that allows you to read the first couple of pages online.

LOL! EXACTLY as I predicted. Strobel is a well known apologist. Of course he's going to say he's questioning things, but he went in with a forgone conclusion. You are just mentally masturbating again... There is as much critical examination in that book as there is chocolate on jupiter.

Really, your pathetic excuse for a brain makes me sad for you, as well as makes me wonder how you get around in the world unsupervised...

LL, I wouldnt judge it before actually reading it. Strobel was once a skeptic and questions those that he interviews with real, tough, substantive questions.

Again, I would highly recommend it to anyone wo wantsw to examine the subject with something other than a mind that is completely closed.
